Maintenance Guide

Operation
  • Keep the mesh retracted in its protective housing unit when not in use to preserve and extend the life of the mesh.
  • Be sure the mesh rolls up evenly when you retract it into its housing. Creases or wrinkles can shorten the mesh’s life span and may cause the slide bar to sit at an angle when the mesh is stored away.
  • Wind load will affect the screen’s operation. We suggest you keep the screens retracted into their protective housing in windy conditions.
  • Retractable screens are intended to provide reasonable insect control – not the retention and/or security of objects, animals or persons.
Care & Maintenance
  • Lubricate the tracks monthly. Use the provided dry silicone spray as needed to maintain your Phantom Screen. Keep the tracks clean and free of debris. If your screen doesn’t function properly, clean and lubricate the tracks.
  • DO NOT use lubricants that contain grease such as WD-40®.
  • Clean mesh fabric, housing, tracks, slidebar and handle with water, mild detergent and a soft brush or cloth – not with harsh chemicals or a pressure washer.
  • Allow mesh to dry before rolling it back up into the housing.
  • Schedule a Tune-up service as needed. We recommend every 3-4 years to keep your screen looking and working as new.
Operation
  • Motorized screens should be watched during operation.
  • If an object prevents the unit rom lowering lift the slidebar up manually and remove the obstacle.
  • If the slidebar is not level, use the remote control to lower the mesh until it becomes level
  • Interruption of power can affect motorized unit operation. Ensure that power is still getting to the unit by checking circuit breakers and ground faults for resetting
  • Remote controls have a limited battery life. Replace the battery if the light does not come on when the button is pressed.
  • Wind load may affect the screens operation. Motorized screens should not be operated in winds more than 25 mph.
Care & Maintenance
  • Proper maintenance of your screen will ensure longevity of the screen.
  • Ensure tracks are kept free of dirt and debris. Simply vacuum along the track to remove any dirt and debris that may be caught in the track.
  • Lubricate the tracks with Phantom’s greaseless silicone spray.
  • Clean mesh fabric, housing, tracks, slidebar and handle with water, mild detergent and a soft brush or cloth – not with harsh chemicals or a pressure washer.
  • Allow mesh to dry before rolling it back up into the housing.
Care & Maintenance
  • For 48 hours after installation, keep the slidebar lowered almost to the ground, in order to help the vinyl straighten.
  • Only roll the vinyl up when it is completely dry, otherwise you risk clouding.
  • Don’t leave the vinyl rolled up for a prolonged period of time.
  • Expect creases or ripples in the weld or perimeter vinyl, and remember that the ripples will soften and disappear when unrolled in the warmth of the sun.
  • Remember that in cold temperatures the vinyl will be stiff and move less easily. Never use the vinyl when temperatures dip below freezing.
  • Be safe: when rolling or unrolling the vinyl, make sure there are no obstacles impeding it.
  • Never wash the vinyl with a pressure washer. Instead, hose it down to remove salt or grit. Then wash it with a gentle soap using a soft cloth.
  • Remember that grit or particles will scratch the vinyl and cloud it.
  • Never use Rain-X, Pledge, or Plexus on your vinyl, they cause hazing and discoloration.
  • We do recommend you use high-grade polishes like IMAR Strataglass™ Polish or Collinite Insulator Wax to restore your vinyl’s sheen.
Troubleshooting
  • Cloudy vinyl – Your clear vinyl may become clouded if moisture is trapped in it when the screen is rolled up. To remove the whiteness, expose the screen to direct sunlight during the day and it should gradually disappear.
  • Wavy vinyl – Waves may form on the screen if it is rolled up for a long time. You can remove them by allowing the sun – on a hot day – to thoroughly warm the vinyl. This will help to remove the waves or ripples.
  • Water not running off the vinyl – Build-up on the surface of the vinyl may cause poor water shed off the vinyl screen. Wash thoroughly first and then apply a polish such as IMAR Strataglass™ Polish or Collinite Insulator Wax. This will help to return the vinyl to a slick finish. Be meticulous about your cleaning and polish cloths – any dirt particles may scratch the viny.
